7:31 p.m.
Dear Wendell,
I will be in the English Office after school tomorrow, but I will be coming from the library, where I have duty last period, so please give me a few extra minutes to get there.
Also, may I request that you begin your e-mails with a polite salutation, particularly considering you are addressing a teacher, not a friend, and that you spell all of your words correctly, in order to solicit credibility from your reader.
Thank you,
Mrs. Prissypratt

Mrs. P I came to the eenglish office after school where you said you be but you werent there I am really having trouble with the q’s and need your help – thanks

Dear Wendell,
I was in the English Office from 2:45 to 3:30, but I did not see you. It took me five extra minutes to gather my belongings and walk from the library to the Office after final announcements ended. If you may recall, I asked for you to be mindful of my lengthy commute from one end of the building to the other. Sometimes, students need to be patient while waiting for teachers to return to their desks.
I will see you tomorrow morning during second period, so we can talk about the discussion questions then.
Thank you,
Mrs. Prissypratt

Hey I thought I could do the questions on my own but then when I sat down to look at them again I relized I couldn’t so could you just let me know what you mean by ‘Why is shooting targets with bows and arrows so satisying to Toby and his friends”? I want to make sure I do them they way you want
Sincerely Wendell

Dear Wendell,
I appreciate your attempts to understand the This Boy’s Life questions to the best of your ability. However, I was a little confused by your silence in class this morning when I asked if anyone had any questions about the assignment. That would have been the perfect opportunity to broach your concerns, as I am sure other students would have benefited from hearing your questions, as well as my answers to those questions.
Is there someone in our class whom you might trust as a study buddy? Franklin Ronan and Abernathy Souza usually read closely, take meticulous notes, and excel at abstract thinking. They are also very friendly and willing to help. Please consider asking one of these boys for assistance.
Thanks,
Mrs. Prissypratt

Dear Wendell,
I understand that you have questions about the original poems assignment. I have posted the directions on our class website, as I do with all of our assignments. In addition, I asked in class this afternoon whether anyone had any concerns about this activity, but at the time, you did not mention any. Do the best you can and have fun with it. Once you have written first drafts of your poems I will be happy to take a look at them. I am always in the English Office after school until 3:30 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

Wendell,
I will be in the English Office after school. As always.
In the meantime, I would like to offer a suggestion about approaching teachers for help. While e-mail can certainly prove convenient, face-to-face discussions provide chances for greater connection between teacher and student and student and assignment. When a student invests the courage and effort into speaking to a teacher in person, that teacher regards the student’s commitment to his or her learning more highly than if the student relies on electronic communication. For much of this year, Wendell, you have chosen to converse with me via e-mail, a choice that has left me questioning your respect for our English course, for your own academic and personal growth, and for me, as your instructor.
I want you to succeed, as all of your teachers do. As we head into the final stretch, in our limited time left, let’s work together, in person, to ensure your development to its fullest potential.

Thanks for the advice and I will try to see you in person instead of emailing. Its just that I want to make sure I can get in touch with you but I will work on it. Wendell

Dear Mrs. Prissypratt,
I am writing to let you know that Wendell has been working very, VERY hard on his This Boy’s Life homework and original poetry over the past couple of weeks and is still struggling to understand exactly what you are looking for with some of the assignments. In fact, he has been writing poems all weekend and will most likely want to do so through tomorrow, Memorial Day, even though we have family coming from out of town. He gets anxious and I want him to be able to enjoy his holiday. He has tried on numerous occasions to get in touch with you regarding opportunities to meet and has yet to hear from you about a specific conference time. If you could just let Wendell know when you will be available, he might let himself relax a little bit tomorrow. I would greatly appreciate it.
Regards,
Mrs. Noclew

Ms. P, I heard from some kids that you are not coming back to school. If this is true I hope everyting is ok. If you are not coming back to school I was wondering if you could still send back my poems with your corrections? and if you are not coming back does this mean we will still be doing the final project? We had a sub today but he didn’t know anything. Did I have enough similies in my second poem because I was worried about that? Thank you Wendell
Love, love, loved it. Always knew teaching required more patience than I had, but found social work did too. You are an important presence ” in this boys life” , the balance from besotted mom, don’t give up.
Liz
This was hysterical!
